Concealed polo-style placket
To construct a concealed polo-style button placket, you will need one placket piece twice the width and twice the length of the opening plus seam allowances. Transfer pattern markings to placket and shirt front. Interface placket piece. For ladies' garments, stay-stitch around left front opening edge. For men's garments, stay-stitch around right front opening edge. Interface behind the opening area. Cut along centre of opening edge up to, but not through bottom stay-stitching, clipping into corners as needed. Fold under and press the seam allowances of one long edge of placket piece. With right sides together, pin and stitch unpressed edge of placket to cut opening (as pictured). Press seam allowance toward placket. Fold placket over seam allowance and topstitch in place. Fold the placket front up over underlap. Topstitch through all layers at bottom edge of placket. Sew buttonholes into placket and buttons to underlap.
