Topstitching

Topstitching is a decorative effect you can obtain using the straight stitch.

• Sew a plain seam and press seam allowance open. From right side of fabric, sew a row of stitching 1/2" (0.7 cm) away from the seamline. Topstitch on each side of the seam.
  
• Sew a plain seam and press the seam allowances to one side. From right side of fabric, sew a parallel row of stitching 1/2" (0.7 cm) from the seam line.
